2) Occupant Load & Egress Sizing
Determine occupant load (OL) using Table 7.3.1.2, then size egress capacity per §7.3.
| Space / Use | Occupant Load Factor | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Business use (typical offices) | 150 ft²/person (gross) | [NFPA 101 (2018) §7.3.1.2] (Table 7.3.1.2) |
| Concentrated business use (e.g., call centers, trading floors) | 50 ft²/person (gross) | [NFPA 101 (2018) §7.3.1.2] (Table 7.3.1.2; A.7.3.1.2) |
| Collaboration rooms ≤ 450 ft² | 30 ft²/person (gross) | [NFPA 101 (2018) §7.3.1.2] (Table 7.3.1.2) |
| Collaboration rooms > 450 ft² | 15 ft²/person (gross) | [NFPA 101 (2018) §7.3.1.2] (Table 7.3.1.2) |
Egress capacity: Where more than one means of egress is required, loss of any one means must leave ≥ 50% of required capacity. [NFPA 101 (2018) §7.3.1.1.2]
